Sony’s gaming division achieved record revenue in the holiday quarter and has now shipped a total of 54.8 million PlayStation 5 units globally. Out of this, 8.2 million units were shipped in the last three months of 2023. In the current fiscal year, Sony has sold 16.4 million units. Initially aiming to ship 25 million units by March 2024, Sony has revised their forecast and now expects to ship 21 million units worldwide.

Sony has not provided any updated sales data for the PS VR2. The last reported sales data was in May of last year, when it sold 600,000 units within the first six weeks of release.

The PlayStation™Network has experienced a 22 percent increase in monthly active users, reaching a total of 123 million users, which is 11 million more compared to the previous year.

The sales of software for PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 saw a 3.7% increase, reaching a total of 89.7 million units, compared to the previous year. Out of these sales, 66% were full game digital downloads, showing a four percent rise from the same period last year.

The sales of first-party units decreased slightly compared to last year, with only 16.2 million units sold, down from 20.8 million units.

Marvel’s Spider-man 2 has now sold through 10 million units as of February 4, 2024

Overall, sales rose 16% year-on-year to ¥1.4 trillion yen in Q3. However, operating profit fell 26%, due to increase losses from hardware due to promotions as well as a decline in sales of first-party titles.

Sony also cut its fiscal year sales forecast for the gaming division by ¥210 billion yen to ¥4.15 trillion yen, saying it expects a decrease in sales of hardware.
